What is the IMPACT of the HTLF Leadership Program?
We take the best and the brightest early career professionals, provide them with fast-paced learning and growth experiences during a 12-month program, and place them into a full-time role within the area of their career aspirations at the end of the 12 months… if they rise to the occasion. Nothing is given, it is earned in the IMPACT program. Participants who earn their placement in a full-time position move on to an accelerated career path that will culminate in a leadership position within 1-3 years.
This is Not an Internship
This is a real job designed for high-potential individuals to achieve success in a managerial or leadership role with opportunities for rapid growth in our organization.
IMPACT program associates are not limited to a career in banking. Opportunities for placement are also available in other areas of interest such as Human Resources, Risk and Fraud, Project Management, and Information Technology.
IMPACT Associates are provided a robust and intensive 12-month experience intended on empowering them to be leaders and influencers across the HTLF footprint. In the first three months, program participants enter the HTLF Academy which consists of three components – The HTLF Story, Banking 101, and Leadership Development. The HTLF Story provides participants with in-depth insight into our strategy, history, lines of business and products, our customer base and competitive edge, and the unique profiles of our banks. Regardless of the career path participants are on, they are provided with essential knowledge in the fundamentals of banking in our Banking 101 curriculum.
Finally, our Leadership Development program provides IMPACT associates with knowledge and skills in influence and persuasion and management and leadership. In the final nine months of the program, participants enter the Immersive Career Development phase where they embark on an intensive and specialized training program within the area of their selected career path and desired full-time placement. Throughout the program, participants will be provided with opportunities to network and learn from the top executives and leaders in our company.
These specialized experiences will enable program participants to become key influencers – uniquely positioned as partners with leaders across our footprint while our organization continues to evolve.
- Governance – Maintain policies, procedures and guidelines to drive standardization and visibility. Contribute to the development of action and/or remediation plans for PMO-owned risks and controls.
- Process & Methodology – Contribute to the maintenance of process standards, definitions, documentation and best practices. Use basic process flow techniques to ensure processes are properly documented.
- Reporting & Analytics – Collect key performance and health data to support actionable change.
- Training & Communication – Support the development and delivery of comprehensive PMO and Project Management training to our stakeholder community.
- Identify, create, and participate in the implementation of efficient workflows for business units, leveraging tools and reporting through existing software when possible.
- Partner with subject matter experts to support multi-functional efforts in process improvement, data capture and analysis.
- Analyze and develop business process workflow diagrams and models to support process design and redesign initiatives.
- Assist or perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of key performance indicators in an effort to identify opportunities for improvement in the existing business model, processes, and structure.
- Monitor adoption through process performance reviews and native system reporting.
- Partner with other cross-functional teams with process-driven workflows to identify and address improvement opportunities.
- Help create and maintain a self-service knowledge base to educate teams and allow ready access to SOPs, process maps, etc.
- A unique perspective of seeing both the front-end and the back-office operations and activities of the Company;
- A better understanding of inter-connectedness and dependencies between the Banks and the Holding Company’s operations and activities;
- Exposure to various senior and/or executive level management throughout the Company; and
- Ability to use critical thinking, problem solve, identify root cause and recommend solutions to relevant management stakeholders.
Risk
The Risk IMPACT Associate will primarily rotate through Enterprise Risk Management, Financial Crimes Risk Management and Corporate Compliance departments within Risk Management. The rotation will provide the candidate with an overview of each area and a better understanding of the risk management areas overall. This will also include opportunities to assist in substantive projects, initiatives and workflow processes. The candidate will gain exposure to Financial Crimes Risk Management, Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management to prepare them for a career path as an Enterprise Risk Management Specialist, Compliance Fair and Responsible Banking Specialist, Financial Crimes Risk Management Analyst, or Fraud Analyst.
Bachelor's Degree required in Finance, Economics, Business Management, Statistics, Computer Science, Criminal Justice and/or related fields would be a typical route.
Digital Technology (IT)
The Digital Technology IMPACT Associate’s primary learning program will develop the skills and knowledge to transition into a Digital Technology Analyst or Developer role. Under general direction, the Digital Technology Analyst/Developer will deliver on key technologies supporting business functions to help increase efficiency, grow the business and provide an exceptional customer experience. This position is responsible for the creation, analysis and delivery of a high-quality, human-focused customer portal. The role will translate designs into crisp code and configurations to build thoughtful experiences centered around our customers and employees. The position will partner with functional teams to determine customer needs, brainstorm solutions, generate website mockups and prototypes, and present these prototypes to stakeholders for our Digital Customer Portal, as well as implement workflow rules, validation rules, approval processes, reports and dashboards. The Analyst/Developer administers Salesforce configuration and authors technical documentation that provides reference when designing, building, deploying, supporting and maintaining applications. Additionally, this position is responsible for analyzing product requirements and developing appropriate technical solutions to ensure successful implementation and building personalized and customized features for customers and internal users using modern technology, including HTTP, JavaScript, Angular, React, AJAX, HTML, CSS, and/or Salesforce Lightning Components using Aura framework and Visualforce pages. Responsibilities include providing a high level of internal customer support, maintaining and developing enterprise application integrations using middleware tools and/or custom-developed REST/SOAP endpoints, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and advancements.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and/or related fields would be a typical route.
Motivation to learn and a passion for technology are musts for this role. A candidate curious about new and innovative technologies will thrive. An understanding of digital technology strategy, software development and/or user experience is a plus.
Credit – Portfolio Manager to Commercial Banker Track
The Portfolio Manager to Commercial Banker Track IMPACT Associate’s primary learning program will develop the skills and knowledge to transition into a Portfolio Manager position which is responsible for underwriting Commercial and Ag credit exposures, consisting of gathering, analyzing and interpreting credit and financial information for existing and prospective customers to assess credit quality and minimize risk and potential loss. In addition, the Portfolio Manager assists the Commercial Banker in managing their client relationships. Many, but not all, Portfolio Managers aspire to become Commercial Bankers. The Commercial Banker is responsible for originating new commercial relationships and the cross-selling of existing clients. They also focus on growing deposits, loans and fee income profitably.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Management, Finance, Accounting and/or related fields would be a typical route.
Commercial – Treasury Management and Card Services
The Treasury Management and Card Services IMPACT Associate’s primary learning program will develop the skills and knowledge to transition into a Treasury and Payment Solutions (TPS) Sales Analyst. Under general direction, the TPS Sales Analyst supports the Treasury Management Officers (TMOs) and Sales Consultants (SCs) to grow TPS revenue. This position is responsible for creating, analysis and delivering proposals, RFPs and sales presentations. The Sales Analyst performs pre-call planning, preparation and participates in joint sales calls with TMOs, SCs and Commercial Bankers. Additionally, this position is responsible for identifying cross sale opportunities and for inside sales of small business clients. Responsibilities include providing a high level of internal customer support, understanding and driving the sales culture and vision of the organization within the banks, maintaining and delivering reporting and metrics, and managing all additional aspects of sales support in the sub lines of business. Career Opportunities on this track can be the TPS Sales Analyst, CPS Analyst, or CPS Account Manager.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Management, Finance and/or related fields would be a typical route.
Identity Access Management
The Identity Access Management (IAM) IMPACT Associate will work with the IAM team on user provisioning and deprovisioning across a variety of applications. The position is responsible for implementing security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction or disclosure. The role grants access to computer data files, monitors data file use and updates computer security files.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems or Applied Science.
Project Management
The PMO IMPACT Associate will work closely with other members of the PMO and stakeholders outside of the PMO to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a PMO Analyst. Under general direction, the PMO Analyst is responsible for contributing to the approved goals and objectives for one of the Portfolio Management Office functions – Governance, Process & Methodology, Reporting & Analytics, and Training & Communication.
The PMO Analyst will be responsible for directly performing assigned work within these defined functions. This position will also collaborate with other PMO team members who are performing work within the defined functions.
Enterprise Data Management
The Enterprise Data Management IMPACT Associate’s primary learning program will develop the skills and knowledge of Enterprise Data Management by rotating through this organization primarily in Data Engineer and Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst roles. The Data Engineer and BI Intelligence Analyst assists in supporting business intelligence development efforts such as data research, data mining, report development, and data development design and development efforts. This position is often a consulting role with internal clients to diagnose challenges, understand needs and support achieving business results. This group supports all areas of HTLF and it's banks.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or IT would be a typical route.
Operations Process Improvement Engineer
As a contributing member of the ITOPS team the IMPACT Associate will focus on conducting process analysis and improvement identification. The assignment would work in partnership with Loan Admin and Deposit Ops lead to document and analyze current business processes and workflows, identify challenges, potential regional variations, and recommend areas for improvements. Additional areas of analysis would be Merger and Acquisition/IT/App Support and Credit processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
A bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering is strongly preferred. Workflow analysis experience is required. Having a demonstrable sense of urgency to solve problems and a strong sense of curiosity is desired.
Internal Audit
The Internal Audit IMPACT Associate will primarily be involved in assisting audit team members in the performance of various compliance, operational and financial audits of HTLF and its Member Bank subsidiaries (the “Company”). The Internal Audit IMPACT Associate will also be involved in executing test of design and operating effectiveness on the Company’s key internal controls over financial reporting to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 requirements. The Internal Audit IMPACT Associate may also have opportunities to assist in various other departmental projects and/or initiatives (e.g., expanding the use of data analytics and other technologies to streamline internal audit activities).
Through their involvement in performance of various types of internal audits, internal control testing, and projects will provide the candidate with the following:
The candidate will gain exposure from a third line of defense Internal Audit perspective to understand the importance of independence and objectivity as well as to see how the inner-workings of a financial institution operates. In summary, this will prepare the candidate for a career path as an Internal Auditor and/or Data Analytics Internal Auditor.
